It had always been my dream to jump on a plane on my own, fly to new york with no plans, arrive at JFK, jump in a yellow taxi, drive to manhattan and spend all day and night on sak's fifth avenue, riding the subway and watching broadway.
Well I decided to do it and it was beyond fantastic.
On the 8th-13th January I jumped on continental airlines flight 029 all by myself, with just an empty suitcase with one coat, a pair of heels, a hair brush and of course exorbitant amounts of red lipstick.
I arrived at JFK, jumped in a yellow cab and drove through manhattan in the snow. It was a very 'sex and the city' moment that i will always remember.
Despite being -10 degrees, fuelled by a starbucks on every street I shopped until i dropped. I visited Tiffanys on fifth avenue, went to the top of the empire state building at midnight, got a boat to staten island and spent a considerable amount of money in Macy's..much to my bank balance's disapproval.
Anyhow, on my trip I visited the Moma (Museum of Modern Art) which was holding a fantastic Tim Burton exhibition to celebrate his past achievements and the highly anticipated 'Alice in Wonderland' movie due to be released in March.
However, what I really went there to see were the Andy Warhol Originals. I admire Andy Warhol, possibly not for his overwhelming artistic talent, because I think there are many directors and artists with more honed technical abilities, but for his continued impact all over the art world.
He coined the term 'pop art' and you cannot escape his images, whether on the internet, in books, in advertisements and posters.
So after salivating over his work like one of the many New York socialite's dogs carried in hadbags through Tiffanys.I pounced on some poor unassuming american(!!) and asked to take my photo in front of his most iconic print work of all time...
